We all get the same 24 hours son

We all get the same 24 hours son.  There is no difference in the time we get each day my boys. What matters is what we do with that time. Everything is about choices.  Some people choose to make money, others choose to spend time with their family and some choose to do not much of anything at all. No one thing is correct, what matters is happiness.

The definition of success and happiness is different for everyone. As I’ve gone through life I’ve seen unhappy people with more money than anyone I know and happy people living on love. If you are where you want to be son you have won. So choose to spend your 24 hours doing the things you love, the things that make you happy.  We all get the same 24 hours son.

We all get the same 24 hours

Every morning we wake up we get the chance to do something different

Each morning we wake up gives us the chance to change our world.  To do something completely different with our life.  This choice is not limited to mornings either, you have this power at any point to change your world.  It can happen in a moment, but I will get into that next.  The power of a decision should never be looked past son.

We all get the same 24 hours

Every morning I wake up, I sit down and go through what is important in my life.  I make sure that I am heading in the direction that I want to.  Something I think is important son, is understanding what is important to you.  Don’t chase someone elses’ goals, chase yours.  Imagine yourself every morning living the life you love.  If you are not living the life you love, figure out what is stopping you.  Break down walls, create the world you want in your mind every morning.

Live the life you love son

You can change your world in one moment

I have always been amazed by the power we have to change our world in a single moment.  One decision can change the course of your whole life.  So many decisions had they not happen would bring me to a different place in my life.  Not actively looking for Mama when I got back to New Zealand after nine months away would mean that I wouldn’t be sitting here writing to you boys.  That in itself shows the sheer power of one decision.

We all get the same 24 hours

You can use this power to change your whole world at any point.  I recently changed our whole world after seeing the affect on you when we returned home.  I hadn’t returned home since we had been flooded, and to be honest I was not ready for what I saw either.  It is hard to see the place you call home, derelict, without life.  When I looked at you Rakeiora I thought about the power that we had.  In that decision we changed everything about what we were supposed to do that day.  We jumped in the truck, drove along our route searching for parks, exploring gorges, climbing mountains, watching the sunset, the sunrise and swimming at the beach.  That hadn’t been my plan, but in that one moment, I decided to change our world.

Change doesn’t have to be that complicated son.  It can be as easy as deciding to smile when nothing inside you feels like it.  But that one decision will change your world.

  1. I hope my sons can live their lives happy and true to themselves. I love your decision to take your son away from the devestation of the flood rather than step directly into hard reality.

    1. Thank you. I feel like sometimes we forget this amazing power that we have to change the course of our world in one decision. We have come to embrace this and we show it to our boys in as many ways as we can. Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Is this a similar to how you see parenting?

  2. This is so true and something I have really tried to remember recently. You see certain people who seem to have it all together and can accomplish so much, and it makes me feel really inadequate. But just like you said we ALL have the same 24 hours. That mom who seems to be so put together doesn’t have more time in her day than I do! It really comes down to mindset and prioritizing. Thanks for the reminder!

    1. I think it’s so normal to feel inadequate. But in reality only we know what we do. I know for us a real defining value was the investment that we put into anything that we do. Each moment we give value to something just by engaging in it. We have chosen to put that investment into our boys. It’s so amazing when you reflect on this. We all get the same 24 hours and each moment we invest in something. Thanks for investing in our blog and as such validate what we do every day for our boys. We appreciate your investment, time and we hope we might see you again. Thanks Katie

  4. Very well written piece… Each day, each 24 hours keeps coming and going. It’s really we who decide how we make use of it…
